Big Picture

Anything worthwhile in life will require small steps of faithfulness and perseverance on our part. Farmers do not grow crops overnight but nurture them daily with the big picture in mind that if they are faithful, one day their hard work will produce a bountiful harvest.

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32

On my latest trip to Haiti, God revealed to me several big-picture moments; moments that beautifully moved my heart! It was as if God was giving my husband and me a peek inside of Coreluvs crop that’s been growing little by little over the past 7 years. You never know the exact moment what significance a small seed may return. For Coreluv, the daily growth of small seeds have been a result of faithfulness, hard work, success, failure, and even disappointments. Your fruitfulness for God’s kingdom will be no different. But if you do not give up, in due time, you will reap a harvest.

While in Haiti God allowed us to catch a glimpse of the beautiful tree that has blossomed throughout the years. I love this because you can’t point to just one seed. A tree is made up of multiple branches with multiple green leaves, each having its own function but thriving only as it connects with the other. Each seed represents people to us. First, the people God has called us to reach (Haitians and specifically the orphan). Second, the countless churches and Coreluv advocates who have walked alongside us sowing what was in their hands to help us water those seeds little by little. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 3 that one plants, another waters, but God causes the growth.

In seven years, God has allowed Coreluv to faithfully provide an orphan’s basic needs. He has also allowed us to raise the vision of our Haitian employees causing them to believe that they can make a difference in the orphan crisis in their own country and bring change to the spiritual climate around them. Coreluv has had the privilege to employ over 120 Haitian workers through multiple arms of our organization over the years thus making a dent in orphan prevention. That is something we are proud of!

There are so many stories of God’s faithfulness I could recount but there are a couple that captured my heart on this particular trip to Haiti. The first occurred on top of prayer hill (the hill overlooking our Coreluv facilities where every team gathers to pray blessings and spiritual dreams into existence) .

This particular trip was special to Mike and me because TJ and Lanie Guidry were on the trip with us. TJ and Lanie moved to Haiti to serve as Coreluv missionaries back in 2012. They stood countless times on that same hill when nothing existed except barren land. Now, 6 years later, TJ was struck with emotion. He could not hold back his tears as he was in awe of God’s miraculous work. He remembered standing on top of that hill praying that God would one day build a children’s village that would help many orphans. He also recounted having prayed that God would bring hope and change to the Myan village which might begin to lift it up from the poverty that had held it captive for so long. He began to see with his own eyes the promises fulfilled of having a school at the bottom of that hill which would educate hundreds of children and also a clinic that would bring health and healing to countless people in the surrounding communities.

You never know who’s on the other side of your obedience or the big picture moments that being faithful with small seeds will one day produce. TJ and Lanie stood in awe of God that day; we all did! They sowed numerous small seeds at the birth of Coreluv and now they were experiencing the fruitfulness of their investment years later. Beautiful! That was a big picture moment that I’m thankful God allowed me to see.

Later that afternoon Mike and I stepped into a meeting with our Haitian orphanage staff in Myan where God allowed us to see yet another big picture. As our staff was worshipping the Lord in their own language, God opened our eyes to see the spiritual community that’s developed there over time. It’s not about us. It’s about obeying God and what he’s asking each of us to do for his kingdom in the country of Haiti. I was able to get a glimpse of the abundant growth produced by countless small seeds sown through the hands of hundreds of people over the years and it overwhelmed me! Our Haitian staff has caught the vision that they can rise above the norm and the seeds in their hearts have developed roots deep into the soil. What God showed me next humbled me. Those seeds have grown, they have risen out of the ground and they have blossomed into a fertile, beautiful tree. And that tree will bless generations to come!

What seeds are you sowing today for God’s kingdom? No seed is too small. Be careful to nurture the small seeds in your life. For if you do, you will produce a big picture harvest that will one day have the potential to impact a nation!

Pure and genuine religion is the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27
