John chapter 21 has been a staple for Coreluv, a passage we’ve looked into many times. Discovered within its verses is a beautiful depiction of putting God first.
As you read it, listen and visualize with your heart the picture Jesus painted.
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
Peter said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
Peter was grieved because Jesus said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.”
What a powerful portion of scripture. Jesus pressed Peter over and over as if to find out where on the balance of his heart his devotion for him would rest.
Was Peter’s aim only to feed and clothe the sheep?
We passionately believe that no matter how many good things we do in and for the world, and no matter how many children we feed and clothe, our love for God must be greater!
Out of our genuine devotion for God, He can do more through us than we could ever do on our own!
Coreluv is NOT a non-profit organization merely known for feeding and caring for orphans alone. If that were the case, we’d be no different than any other humanitarian organization that has aligned its hands with the sole purpose of bettering our world. Nothing against those organizations, and the positive contribution they have made, but that is not the only thing God has placed Coreluv here to do.
We are, and will always be, lovers of Jesus first. We are not ashamed of that. It is through our devotion to God, where He in return places compassion within us to love the world.
The people group He’s specifically asked us to serve is, of course, the orphan. How much greater our love is for them when we keep Jesus the priority!
So when determining where our devotion to God will rest within the spectrum of His purpose for our lives, may our hearts be quick to live these words,…”Yes, Lord, we love you first and foremost, and from your love alone, we will feed your sheep!”
Defending the orphan goes beyond one day, one week, one month, even beyond one year. It is a daily call to care for and pray for the children entrusted to us. We could NOT do what we do without each and every one of our partners. It takes all of us together to make a difference in the lives of these children, daily providing their six basic needs of clean water, proper food, healthcare, education, job skills, and a Christ-centered loving home. If you are not already an Orphan Care Partner, you can become one today on our Orphan Care Page.
