My husband had our Coreluv team participate in an impactful exercise at one of our most recent staff retreats. He wanted to challenge us to live purposefully. He asked everyone to write down and then to share their last words.
In other words, if we were leaving this earth, what were one or two statements of wisdom and purpose we’d desire to leave with the next generation? At first it sounded a bit morbid, but to my surprise, the exercise quickly began to impact hearts throughout the room. Those last words were so touching, not only because of their weight but because of the wealth of wisdom and beauty contained within them!
In Matthew 28, Jesus tells his disciples some last departing words before he ascended into heaven. He said, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 18-20
Does the great commission still carry the weight it was originally meant to carry; and, do we still take the GREAT last words of Jesus as seriously as he intended for them to be?
I get it, sometimes life can be overwhelming. We get busy, take on too many responsibilities, lose focus, and before we know it, we’ve forgotten WHY we exist. But it’s good to ask ourselves as Christians, for what should we be living our lives and to what should we be giving our energy?
Let’s turn back to those timeless, authoritative last words of our master, “GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you!”
Let’s ask the Father to give us his heart for the people groups around the world; the people who are not yet a part of this amazing family of God and those who need to encounter the Savior and the overwhelming love of God!
We are still commissioned to count the cost, to take up our cross, and to follow Christ!
Today, those words can seem foreign, but they are words we’d be wise to adapt our lives to and to obey. Whether that’s witnessing to the lost right here in our city, or making disciples across the ocean; here’s the reminder, this earth is not our permanent home.
It is an honor for Coreluv to send out missionaries into the mission field every year. People in Haiti are coming to Christ, children are being cared for, and a nation is experiencing hope in the midst of darkness.
Perhaps you desire to answer the great commission? Don’t ignore that nudge in your heart! People are waiting on the other side of your obedience!

The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields. Luke 10:2
